As a Lottery Monitor for The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Simon is overseeing the £11m restoration of the 150-year-old Rochdale Town Hall, a Grade 1-listed masterpiece. This is one of the finest examples of Victorian Gothic architecture in the UK with historic interior features including the Magna Carta mural and the ceiling panels in the Great Hall. The project will open up areas of the building never previously available for public access. It will also create new community spaces as well as a new exhibition space celebrating Rochdale and its’ people. The works will also include the transformation of the public realm for major events as well as create terracing to provide full accessibility. The first phase enabling works has commenced and the building is due to re-open in 2023.
